| While there is no shortage of international research on project failure rates, often overlooked is the role of an under-developed PMO in an organisation's success.
Too often a PMO is established, transitioned into BAU then left untouched. While the rest of the organisation grows, matures, expands and changes; the PMO can remain stagnant and slowly lose its value proposition to the sponsoring organisation.
That's why the proactive and progressive driving of PMO Maturity along a defined Roadmap is crucial to both a PMO's evolution and in enhancing (even maintaining) its value to an organisation.
The Green Light Projects PMO Maturity Model has been leveraged on many occasions to:
- Benchmark an organisation's PMO and its value to the organisation.
- Identify strengths and targeted improvement opportunities.
- Recommendations for short, medium and long term value enhancement.
- Define an agreed Roadmap through which the PMO can regain and maximise its value to the organisation.
Upon completion of a PMO Roadmap engagement the PMO will be benchmarked against this Model (levels depicted below), and where applicable a comparison with like organisations will also be provided.
On many occasions a PMO elects to bolster its organisational credibility by achieving Project Managed Organisation status with the Australian Institute of Project Management. This can be done in isolation or as part of a broader PMO Roadmap engagement.
