All too often a completed Project is seen as a successful
one. While the technical implementation of a Project is of course crucial to
its success, it is the integration of Project and related disciplines which
bring about genuinely sustainable change, and the delivery of the intended
benefits.
Some of the more complex Projects which I have recently
managed include:
- A M$7.5 Project replacing the core system for 3,000 field
service technicians in an international office and entertainment hardware
organisation.
- Initial design and subsequent configurations of a
proprietary Project Management software application.
- The business readiness assessment and configuration a
Project Portfolio Management solution.
- Implementation of the Government Information Public
Access Act.
In addition to the delivery of successful Projects, it is
not uncommon for a consulting engagement to be require the application of
Project and/or Program Management, due to:
- The complexity of the work, with multiple workstreams
requiring integration.
- The mission critical nature of the Project/Program.
- The degree of unchartered territory for the organisation
and its appetite for change.
- The degree of delivery ownership. In some cases I play
the role of Program Architect, directing and guiding a team of colleagues and
stakeholders, however in most cases I assume full delivery responsibility.
Some of the more recent consulting engagement which
required the solid application of Project and./or Program Management include:
- The design, collaborative development and implementation
of Project, Program and Portfolio Management Frameworks to numerous organisations.
- Due Diligence in a major Financial Services acquisition.
- Merger and progressive integration of the Far East Asia
and Oceania Knowledge Centres into a single APAC Knowledge Centre for a major
international professional services provider.
